At this year’s 5G.NRWeek, several CNI activities were highlighted. In a panel on mobile connectivity and innovation for Germany and NRW, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wietfeld participated alongside Mona Neubaur (NRW Minister of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Action and Energy), Dr. Andreas Müller (Project Director 6G, Robert Bosch GmbH), Claudia Plattner (President of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI)) and Tanja Richter (Chief Network Officer, Vodafone Deutschland GmbH) and discussed the realization of European technology sovereignty as well as the competitiveness of Germany and the strong industrial and ICT region of North Rhine-Westphalia.

In addition, Dr.-Ing. Fabian Kurtz from CNI provided an overview of Radio Access Network architectures including Open RAN. The trend towards software-driven mobile communication and open interfaces as those defined by the GSMA Open Gateway initiative enable networks to flexibly adapt to application needs.

Between the sessions, 5G.NRWeek participants had the opportunity to visit various exhibitions of current CNI activities and take part in live demonstrations on critical communication for remote controlled rescue robotics, AI-supported predictive slicing for reliable real-time control of highly dynamic intralogistics robots as part of 6G ORAN and open solutions for Open solution for comprehensive monitoring and evaluating the mobile network quality and AI-enabled private network planning.
